Hi Everyone,
I've been reading/lurking for a few weeks and thought I'd say hello.  My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet but I'm well into the process and plan to have vsg.  I'm seeing "Dr. G" with the Abington Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  I'm the wife of an active duty Marine officer and mother of 3 kids, aged 17 to 11.

The support group offered by my surgeon's practice is on the same night as another commitment I have so I was bummed that I'd have to miss this month's meeting.  But last night  I came across info regarding the support group meeting at Barix in Langhorne and decided to drive over and meet those folks.  What a warm, caring group of people!  It was really nice to sit and talk with other people who've "been there, done that" and have lots of questions answered.  The icing on the cake was the charming fellow that led our little group . . . Brad?  No, I'm getting him mixed up with Angelina Jolie's husband.  His name was Mike.  (You Barix peeps will get that, I'm sure )

I'm so psyched to have finally made this decision and am looking forward to a new beginning.  Right now I'm working on making some changes before surgery that will help me with the transition post-op:  things like no more carbonated beverages, taking smaller bites, chewing more thoroughly and switching to decaf.

Okay, that's it for now.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh Deborah,

You didn't fall prey to that "charming" Brad/Mike guy now did you?  His head will not fit in the doorway come next month.  lol. . .

So glad you joined us and hope to see more of you, as our support groups at Barix are really a great place to get us and keep us motivated along the way, both pre and post-op.  One of the unique features of our support group is that we welcome all who have chosen this path, no matter where they had (have) their surgery, or which choice they made.  We are also blessed in that we have people like Barbara or Helene, nutritionists who will help answer questions as we go along and there is also Ms. Connolly who comes to learn how better to understand the changes we experience and offers valued input when she can.

Anyway, look forward to seeing you again soon and get ready for the ride of your life.

Laureen

Deborah,

I only saw you in passing talking after the meeting, but I am glad that you found us!!

You will find the more you come the more you WANT to come. I have found this group to be a lifeline of love, support and friendships.

Like Laureen said, " Don't let Mike hear you talk like that!" He will be so full of himself....LOL!

Anyway, good luck on your journey and hopefully we will be a part of it!!!

Sincerely,

Beth

Hi Deborah;

Like you I had my surgery elsewhere, but have found Barix to be the best support groups around this area.  Mike was my support group leader for a year while I worked on getting to the point to where I could have this surgery.   I still miss the pre-op meetings....

Welcome...

Ida
